More than 200 people participated in Equity Workshops in September. These workshops were designed to help partners and community stakeholders develop a shared understanding and language on equity, equality, structural racism, diversity and inclusion. Participants from diverse backgrounds included representatives from local nonprofits and government agencies, volunteers, candidates for local office and health care providers.
Presentations by national equity experts from ABFE highlighted systemic barriers faced by communities of color that have resulted in persistent disparities in health, education, economic success and other areas. The workshops included discussions on the importance of using an intentional racial equity lens in driving community change. Participants also learned about tools for implementing this framework to advance racial equity.
